Goat milk price hits Rs 800 per litre in Jammu

Patients suffering from dengue are purchasing goat milk at Rs 800 per litre in Jammu and its adjoining localities as its demand has increased manifold. In GMCH, Jammu, nearly 250 patients tested positive for dengue and their number is swelling with every passing day. The situation is worst on the outskirts where the facility to check blood for detecting dengue fever is not available. People are going for traditional treatment methods to get some relief. Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts and some parts of Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch are also engulfed by this disease. As traditional healers suggest that goat milk is beneficial for dengue patients, its price in the Jammu plains has reportedly soared to Rs 800. “The only hospital in Bishnah, which caters to nearly 100 villages is over-crowded as the number of patients suffering from dengue symptoms is increasing with every passing day,” said Ajay Kumar, a resident of Bishnah. “I have purchased goat milk at Rs 800 per litre for my father who is suffering from fever,” he said. Normally, goat milk is available for Rs 40 to 45 per litre, but during the last two months it is being sold at sky-high rates.
